Sespring Skincare explained

Beauty trends change. Korean skincare is one of the latest trends to hit the market. This trend, sometimes referred to by the name K-beauty or Korean beauty, is all about using multistep skin treatments and enhanced skincare products. Here’s everything you need to learn about this new approach for healthy and radiant skin.

What makes Korean skin care different?

What makes Korean skincare different from other methods is its focus on prevention and protecting the skin, rather than “repairing” any damage caused by harsh products.

The skin is treated by a combination of cleansing, hydration and nourishment. It is more important to let your skin thrive through regular, consistent care than to use a product.

K-beauty’s popularity is another distinguishing factor. It was based on skin care regimens that many Koreans have traditionally used, but it evolved over time as new research and competition drove further innovation. Korean skincare evolved as new brands and routines were introduced. It has become a global self-care concept that is gaining attention.

Hydration Is Key

Why is this method so successful? Hydration is an important component of a skincare regimen. Multiple hydrating creams layered on the skin will help them penetrate better, making them even more effective.

This results in plumper skin with a youthful glow. The Korean beauty industry developed the term “glass-like skin” from the smooth, clear and highly hydrated skin.

There are many different skin care routines

The number of steps can vary depending on whether you are using a 5, 7, 10 or 12-step routine. All Korean skincare routines begin with a double cleanse, and moisturizers are included. It’s not necessary to follow a rigid number of steps in order to see lasting results. Instead, tailor a routine that best suits your skin. It’s not uncommon to change the number of steps depending on your budget and time constraints.

It is recommended that those who are just starting out perform the basic and most important steps each morning. In that order, you should use an oil-based cleansing product, a water-based cleaning product, a toner, moisturizer and an SPF.

Morning and night skin care routines do not need to be identical. It is common to leave the longer morning routines to the evenings, and concentrate on the moisturizing in the morning.

A 10-Step Routine

This 10-step method is widely accepted as the most popular and common Korean skincare routine. The steps are followed in the following order:

Step 1.

Use an oil based cleanser first to remove any oil based impurities. It is important to use a cleanser that will remove all the oil-based impurities from your skin, including makeup and SPF.

Step 2

Use a cleanser with water. This product, which is usually a bar or foaming liquid, will remove any remaining dirt and sweat that the oil-based cleanser left behind.

Step 3

The next step is to exfoliate once or twice per week. The product, whether it is a pad, scrub or peel, helps remove dead skin and accumulation.

Step 4

Toner is the next step in your routine. The toner is used to bring back moisture to your skin and restore the pH balance.

Step 5

The next product, which is unique to Korean skincare is an essence. It is designed to protect and hydrate your skin. The essences are fermented products that work similarly to toners and serums.

Step 6

It’s now time to add a treatment, in the form a serum. These are usually used for repairing specific problems and can contain ingredients that target acne, wrinkles, etc.

Step 7

Next, apply a sheet-mask — a paper mask soaked in serum — to the entire face. They don’t have to be used every day, just like with exfoliants.

Step 8

A cream for the delicate skin surrounding the eyes is then used to reduce dark circles, puffiness and fine wrinkles. Eye gels or oils can be used instead of creams.

Step 9

The second-to-last step, which is very important, involves applying a Korean moisturizer. These moisturizers work as sealants to make sure all products have been absorbed into the skin.

Step 10.

Before leaving for the day, apply a SPF to protect you from harmful UV rays. Many makeup and moisturizers contain SPF. However, this is not enough to protect you from the harmful effects of sun exposure.

Self-love Through Korean Skincare

Don’t let the sheer number of steps overwhelm you. This self-care routine can become a soothing form of love for yourself once you get into the rhythm of choosing the steps that work best for you.
